Promoting sustainable development in tropical islands: strengthening capacities for enhancing cultural heritage, traditional know-how, and local food production

CULTIVAR aims at leveraging cultural heritage and traditional knowledge, fostering sustainable tourism and local food promotion in Cabo Verde and São Tomé e Príncipe by establishing an innovative teaching environment and promoting cooperation between academia and society.

Key objectives

Strengthening competences and skills of university staff members in higher education institutions (HEIs) from Cape Verde and São Tomé e Príncipe on the valorisation of cultural heritage, promotion of sustainable tourism and promotion of local food products

Innovating and updating the existing study programs in the HEIs in Cape Verde and São Tomé e Príncipe by introducing a multidisciplinary approach and adapting teaching modules to focus on cultural heritage, sustainable tourism, sustainable development, education for sustainability and sustainable food systems.

Strengthening the skills of teachers, researchers, postgraduate students, and external professionals in developing and implementing cultural projects

Facilitating the networking and cooperation between stakeholders, reinforcing the relations between local stakeholders, the engagement of local communities, connecting actors (government, local authorities, heritage institutions, universities, organizations) to contribute to the promotion of cultural heritage, sustainable tourism, and promotion of local food products.
